The autonomic nervous system responds to sensations in the body and signals from the environment through three pathways of response. These pathways work in a specified order and respond to challenges in predictable ways.#hierarchy #polyvagaltheory #drporges #stephenporges #and #autonomicnervoussystem #nervoussystem #neuralpathways #debdana #ventralvagal #sympathetic #dorsalvagus #dorsalvagal #ventralvagal #vagusnerve

The autonomic nervous system has three basic pathways of response. Ventral - well regulated & engagedSympathetic - fight & flightDorsal - collapse & shutdown The autonomic nervous system (ANS) orchestrates the body’s unconscious reactions through three distinct pathways? These pathways play a crucial role in how we respond to stress, danger, and daily interactions. Understanding them can provide insights into our physical and emotional well-being. Developing that awareness is the first step in befriending our nervous system. Ventral Pathway:This is the most balanced and engaged state. When the ventral pathway is dominant, we feel calm, connected, and capable of engaging with the world around us. We are saying “All is well, I’ve got this.” Sympathetic Pathway:Well known for the “fight or flight” response, this pathway dominates when a threat is perceived. It means we are ready for action - either to confront danger or to make a swift exit. This is about survival, preparing muscles, heart, and brain to act quickly and efficiently. Dorsal Pathway:The dorsal pathway leads to a “collapse and shutdown”. It is the last resort, for when the threat is too overwhelming to either fight or flee. This state is to protect us, conserving energy and numbing emotions to help cope. Each pathway has a unique purpose, influencing our reactions and decisions, our very being, how we are. #MindBodyConnection#SelfAwareness#AutonomicNervousSystem#wellnessjourney#fibrowarrior#cfs#autoimmunedisease
